Equine Nutrition Advisor
Equine Nutrition is a very complex subject.
Is my horse receiving everything it needs?
Is the diet suitable for the workload?
Does my horse have a metabolic issue?
Does my horse have gastric issues?
The equine digestive system is very complex and it requires the correct balance of forage, feed, minerals and vitamins. These requirements change, depending on age, workload, health issues and environment.
Each horse must be treated as an individual and their dietary requirements are specific to them. There is a huge range of feeds, such as complimentary or concentrated, balancers and supplements on the market. So how do you choose the correct one for your horse?
Are you a breeder or young stock producer?
Prevention is better than cure, many cases of limb deformities and muscular issues can be prevented with the correct diet.
Does your horse have metabolic issues?
Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) for example, can be managed through a correct diet
Horses can present with different symptoms as a result of an unbalanced diet. There may be a drop in performance, changes in behaviour or unexpected weight gain or loss, to name a few.
From Shetland ponies, up to high performance racehorses, showjumpers, or eventers, and every horse or pony, in between, nutrition is key.
Stallions, broodmares, foals, yearlings, two year olds, three year olds, older horses and ponies, all have different requirements.
There are a lot of factors to consider before choosing what to feed.
A well-balanced diet can prevent injury and illness from occuring.
